Ah, D-Link

An interesting article:
When Firmware Attacks!

Yet another reason not to buy D-Link products? I can't count the number of issues I've (and people I know) have had with D-Link products...

  • Firmware crashing (DWL-900AP+, DSL-300, DWL-2100AP)
  • Firmware crashes after n hours (likely memory leak) (DWL-900AP+, DWL-2100AP)
  • Firmware randomly reboots (DWL-900AP+, DWL-2100AP)
  • Firmware reboots upon recieving DHCP packet (DWL-900AP+)
  • Switch just dies and won't even power up (DES-1008D)
  • D-Link "AirPLUS" application doesn't work unless logged in as Administrator (D-Link's solution is to give user Administrative privileges) (DWL-520+)
  • Card stops communicating unless D-Link "AirPLUS" application installed (Card works for ~30 hours using supplied drivers, but stop working afterwards unless application installed) (DWL-520+)

I'm sure there's more, but I can't remember at the moment...

I even had a D-Link router catch on fire. I was working in the server room trying to get the stupid thing working. It had been on for only an hour and the room was at a normal temperature. All of a sudden I smelt the horrible smell of burning plastic and noticed smoke coming from the router! I unplugged it and stopped burning.

Thankfully they replaced the router!

Oh man, this puts the icing on the cake:
A D-Link Certified Network Engineer course.

'D-Link' and 'Engineer' in the same sentence is bad enough. Also notice the 'D-Link Security Certified'...
