iPhone? Not I.

Most of you will immediately assume I'm against the iPhone because it's made by Apple. But that's not the case. Admittedly, the iPhone is a pretty cool gadget. It's what most of us have wanted for a while -- not to have to carry around a phone, MP3 player and a camera, and find pockets for all these gadgets.

Firefox 2.0 close button

Just a quick one today!

One of the things that annoyed me in Firefox 2.0 (other than the fact that it seems about three times slower than 1.5) is that the close button is now located on the tabs, instead of where it was (to the right).

Here's how to revert back to Firefox 1.5 behaviour:
Type about:config in the address bar, and find browser.tabs.closeButtons (the filter is your friend).

closeButtons accepts any of three values:

Vietnam, Vietnam

Next time you talk to me, I might say something along the lines of "back in 'nam"... Well, I've just returned from an awesome two weeks in Vietnam :)

If anyone's planning on heading there, here's some experiences...

If you're starting in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) and heading up to Hanoi, you might see something at the markets and think "ah, I'll just get it later in Hanoi". Don't. The markets at HCMC are more numerous, and stacks cheaper than Hanoi.

Eudora molestation

I don't use the term molestation lightly, but Eudora really does molest emails.

For those of you who don't know, I've been using Eudora for about 11 years now. The oldest email in my mailbox is from December 1997.

Two weeks ago, I decided it was time to make a change. Eudora had treated me well for the first ten years, but was starting to show its age. I guess it didn't like having huge mailboxes, with mail from four different versions of Eudora. I decided to move to Outlook 2003.

To the moon ....

NASA announced recently that within 2 decades they will have a team of astronauts living and working on the moon in a permanent moon base.

Now the announcement itself is great I think, but it got me thinking why has it taken so long?

Used car sales 101

Having just been car shopping on the weekend, I found the experience quite unpleasant. It seems to me that used car salesmen nowadays just have no idea about customer service! So here's Pete's guide to being a used car salesman.

Clean your stock
The worst: A place in Fyshwick. The guy actually tried to get me to sit in a car that was absolutely filthy. Food crumbs all over the upholstery and dashboard, the exterior was covered in a nice shade of "mud brown", and the car smelled like smoke.

Ready for Rudd

Bring it on. Labour needs to dump Beazley and quick. He hasn't won in the last 10 years and I don't think he will again next year. Beazley is a waste. A hack who has NEVER had a good policy. Name 1 Beazley policy that hasn't been simply a rollback of a Liberal Policy. "I'll rollback the GST", "I'll rollback Immigration policy", "I'll cut and run from Iraq", "I'll rollback the IR reforms".

International Roast

I have about 5 more minutes here at the interent cafe in venice and I thought I might let you know some of the more... interesting coffees Ive had in Prague Venice Vienna and Budapest. (Please forgive the terrible typing- apart from anything I cant find the apsotrophe on italian keyboards....).

First and most horrible, Worst Coffee Of The Trip:

Budapest Museum of Fine Arts
Their "espresso" is brewed coffee that has sat there for who knows how long that is poured into a little cup. Apparently that makes it espresso.

Most Expensive

Uni's Over

It's over (save for a few exams) and I couldn't be happier. I don't know what it is about the last year but I am so glad to be finished.

It's kind of a let down really. Here I sit in N110 for the last time, no one is here and it's all very quiet around uni. But somethings never change. First years continue to scurry around to finish their Java assignments and 3rd years begin to worry that they will be turning into us next year (grumpy, old and willing to complain about anything). The department continues to pretend like it gives a shit and TSG still sucks.
